As the video game industry grows, technology does as well. So we get outstanding music. The following rules apply. One entry per franchise, and each entry won’t be very long because you can’t really talk about songs without any lyrics for too long. With that said, let’s get started!

I have only one thing to say with my previous attempt to review this… FAIL! So, let’s do this for real this time!
STORY: You are a boy/Girl in the “wonderful world of Pokemon.” A man introduces you to the world by the name of Sycamore, professor Sycamore. He tells you that the world awaits and the game begins. You start at your house in Vaniville town and a fletchling wakes you up. You then talk with some of your new neighbors and head to the next town, Aquacorde town. This is where you really meet your friends, Serena/Calem is your next-door neighbor and a very serious trainer, and he/she will challenge you to battles and have the upper hand in most situations if you are not prepared. Shauna is the token girl character that doesn’t care about strength and only cares about cute pokemon. Tierno is a character that loves to dance and always watches pokemon to see the moves they can use in dances (weird, I know.) Lastly, Trevor is a character that only cares about filling up the pages of the pokedex. Here, you are given a pokemon and the adventure begins! You have a choice between Fennekin, a fire type pokemon with good speed and offence. Or, you can choose Froakie, an all-around water type that, other than defense, has good stats. Lastly, there is Chespin, a highly defensive grass type. Whichever one you pick, Serena/Calem picks the type your pokemon is weak to, and Shawna, claiming it’s cute, picks the type that is weak against your pokemon. Shawna then challenges you to a battle. (Hint, use common sense to win!) After which, your journey begins! You start by going to santalune city, where you can take on its gym leader, who is a shutterbug and uses bug types. The next part of your adventure takes you to Lumiose city; however, most of the city is suffering from a blackout and you can only explore one street and one boulevard. When you enter the city, a boy and a girl claiming to be professor Sycamore’s assistants tell you to go to the pokemon lab. When you arrive, the professor tells you that he has three pokemon that you can choose from to take with you… but only after you beat him. After you destroy him in a pathetically one-sided battle, you can pick a pokemon; Sycamore also gives you that pokemon’s mega stone. However, after this event and you leave the city, you meet a girl named Korrina, who has a lucario and a riolu with her. Her lucario appears to become attached to you, but that’s over very quickly. Next, you travel to parfum palace, where you need to help someone save his pokemon and get a flute to move a snorelax (a pokemon) out of the way. Next you need to go to Cyllage city to take on its gym, the leader here uses rock types. You also go to glittering cave and meet the new crime organization… TEAM FLARE! And you easily defeat them, as they pose absolutely no threat to you or anyone else. However, after you are done in Cyllage city, the story goes to the “defeat all of the gyms” scenario, until team flare pops up with their plans to create a new world again. So, I’m just going to list the gyms until I get to the parts of the story about team flare. ü Shalour city gym: LEADER: Korrina, yes the same Korrina, TYPE: Fighting, but she doesn’t use her lucario, that’s… odd. But in Shalour city, you go to the tower of mastery, where you fight Korrina again for the mega ring, a ring that allows you to use mega-evolution! Which is just increasing their base stats and making their ability overpowered. ü Coumarine city gym: LEADER: Ramos, old but wise, TYPE: Grass, wipe it out with fire of flying types Suddenly flare, team flare returns, as it turns out, were the people who caused the blackout in Lumiose city and the are sapping energy from the power plant, so you kick them out of there and head back to Lumiose and explore the rest of the city, which leads me to… ü Lumiose city gym: LEADER: Clemont, the tech whiz who doesn’t get out much TYPE: Electric. Ground types for the win. ü Laverre city gym: LEADER: Valarie, the sowing queen…? TYPE: Fairy, bring in some poison or steel types Team Flare is once again up to no good as they are stealing pokeballs from the Pokeball factory, so just go and destroy them, there really isn’t that much story here. But when you get to the next town, Dendemille town, team flare is at it again, looking for strong pokemon in the frost cavern. So you go and destroy their plans again, team flare really isn’t that threatening. ü Anistar city gym LEADER: Olympia TYPE: Psychic, Bring in ghost, bug and dark types! After this gym, it’s time to take down team flare again for the last time in their secret HQ; this is where you can catch the legendary pokemon on the box of the game. You also face the boss of team flare and you have to diffuse the “ultimate weapon” so it doesn’t destroy everything… in the world! And even then it’s not over! ü Snowbelle city gym, LEADER: Wulfric a.k.a. FAT MAN! TYPE: ice, awesome fire type = win So after this you go through the final challenge, Victory Road. When you get through this cave, you are at the pokemon league! Here, you face the elite four Elite four Drasna: TYPE: DRAGON, Bring in fairy or ice types Elite four Malva: TYPE: FIRE, water and ground types help a lot! Elite four Siebold: TYPE: WATER, electric and grass types are your key to victory Elite four Wikstrom: TYPE: STEEL, Fire and fighting for victory. After this you can take on the champion, who has the strongest pokemon in the game. After this, you are awarded for your actions against team flare and for defeating the champion. Now you can travel the region as the new champion! GAMEPLAY: the battle system works great and the animations are very smooth and fluid, but mega-evolution seems too much like a gimmick than anything. The game looks great and controls just beautifully. The music is great, but that’s to be expected, it’s a pokemon game, and the NPCs are amazing. You also get roller-skates and a bike to go through the Kalos region faster. There is only one drawback to the gameplay, after you beat the champion, there isn’t that much to do... and coming off of black/white 2, that is VERY disappointing, but overall, it’s a great experience. FINAL VIRDICT: The poor postgame does bring the experience down, but other that that, the game is fantastic. Beautiful graphics aren’t everything though, and the game feels like it lost something for Black/White 2 to this game, overall, this is still a very good experience 8.5/10, a great game, but there seems to be something… missing. With a console like the Wii, There are sure to be many games that are amazing, so these are the games that I think are the best, and if you have a difference in opinion, comment on what you think should be on the list.
10: Sonic Unleashed: Sonic unleashed is a return to an old sonic that many people had missed after heroes. He also has a new transformation, the werehog. This makes sonic a much more violent fighter and allows him to power through enemies. During the day, you control sonic, at night, you control the werehog, and it’s a lot of fun both ways! However, it’s not the best game ever and there are a lot of moments where I wanted to pull my hair out, but it is a very good game! 9: Mario super sluggers Mario super sluggers is a solid game that is very overlooked because of the theme. The game has a story mode, an exhibition mode, and other special modes that are a lot of fun to play. The story mode is solid and very fun, with missions and puzzles to work through and many large hub-worlds to explore. This game is a lot of fun, however, I can’t put it any higher because it doesn’t have a lot of replay value. Putting it at the number 9 spot 8:Skylanders SWAP force And this is where I lose all credibility. I enjoy the Skylanders series, they are a fun mix of a 3d beat-‘em-up and collection games. The main gimmicks of these games are the figures that can be put in the game and used. The story is always hilarious and gameplay is fun. In swap force, it’s a return to the type of story as the first one, but has levels that drag on for too long. But otherwise, it’s a solid game. 7: Lego STAR WARS: the complete saga This is a fun game, in this game; you follow the story of all 6 star wars movies as Lego characters and play as many different characters. Even the ghosts of Obi Wan, Anakin and Yoda are unlockable. Each character plays differently and the gameplay and story are very similar to the movies and follow the story and characters perfectly, and many different gameplay stiles, such as pod racing, light sabre fighting, blaster pistol shooting and puzzle solving. Overall, this is a fun game and the best licensed game on this list. 6:Skylanders: Spyro’s adventure This is the game, guys; this is the game that cemented me as a fan of collection games. Like swap force, the whole gimmick of the game is the figures. This is the best one in the series, by far. The writing is perfect, the amount of levels is just right, the hub-world is outstanding, and all of the characters are likeable. If you don’t have this game, it’s your loss. 5:Super smash bros. Brawl Brawl is only number 5? Yeah, for what it’s worth, the game is very good and the Subspace emissary is a fantastic story mode, but it’s not as fast as melee, and the online is lag incarnate. But I still play it and have fun. Also, the fact that you could get the characters in the Story mode for other modes spoiled me. But overall, an excellent game, one you should most certainly add to your collection. Side note: look up fate’s hand on YouTube. It’s a very well done fan series and it’s quite professional. 4: Sonic Colors This is the best looking game on this list BY FAR! Sonic returned to the Wii after a few yeas hiatus and his newest romp is one of his best. The plot is simple yet effective, the gameplay is fast and fun and the dialogue is top notch. This is one of the funniest games I’ve played in a long time. (The funniest game I’ve ever played is bowser’s inside story.) The only negative thing is the boss fights are pathetically easy. But not as easy as sonic lost world, overall, PLAY THIS GAME NOW! 3: Super Mario Galaxy But what could beat such a game like sonic colors, which I only had 1 problem with? This game! Super Mario Galaxy has is all! A grand total of 241 stars to collect, plenty of amazing levels to keep you coming back for more, creative ideas up the wazoo and, TOLERABLE NPCS! YES! There are also many things that Mario can do now, like spin and turn into ice. Not to mention, Rosalina is a staple character of the series, and she stared in this game. (No pun intended) Overall, this game is a marvel and truly should be in every gamer’s collection. 2: Mario strikers charged This game is my favorite game that is not a RPG or a platformer. EVER. Mario strikers charged is a fun game. There are a grand total of 96 possible teams, without repeats of a character. Unlike Mario super sluggers, there is a ton of replay value and the gameplay runs incredibly fast. There are a lot of items and gimmicks to get a higher score than your opponent. And it’s just so much fun. There is one flaw, however, the AI can be brutally tough at times. Otherwise, it’s an outstanding game, and it’s only $19.99! 1: Super… Paper… Mario This is the best game on the Wii! (In my opinion.) The gameplay is great, the story is great, and the characters are OUTSTANDING. The levels are spectacularly done and the hub-world is great. If you want some of the best boss battles in any game, play this game. What turns many people away from this game, however, is the fact that it does not have a battle system, like most RPGs. Even earlier paper Mario games had a battle system, but this game doesn’t, but to be honest. I’M SURPRIZED MORE RPGs HAVEN’T TAKEN THIS ROUTE! To sum this entire thing up: Super paper Mario is the best video game I’ve played in a long time and, at only $19.99. You must buy this game; you are not a gamer, until you play super paper Mario. So there’s my list of the top ten Wii games, if you want more, check out my Sonic Lost World review or check out my YouTube channel: Silfer_red. Link is below. If your favorite is not on the list, comment! I’m open to suggestions because I haven’t played everything or make your own list. Link: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeNCX-8TaqarQt5-dsLOa1A STORY: A new threat to the world? Cliché! The game has a story that is good enough, but what happened to stories that were like sonic adventure 2 or even 06? Anyway, I’m going to spoil it rotten, so…SPOILER ALERT! At the beginning, we see sonic flying in the tornado and Eggman flying in the egg-o-matic with an animal capsule hanging from the bottom. This is just like the classic games, but you get actual cut- scenes! Innovations! Anyway, Eggman drops the capsule and sonic dashes after it, only to miss and have Tails catch him, Eggman uses this opening to shoot the tornado (with a ray gun) and sonic and Tails crash-land on a place known only as the lost hex, this place gets absolutely no other explanation whatsoever. I like to speculate that this a compilation of what they tested in the older games, but couldn’t get to work correctly. The game then jumps into the first level of the game. After some gameplay, Eggman is showed again with other characters known as the deadly six. The first one you see is…WARNING, all of the deadly six have names so bad it hurts, so bear with me, anyway, the first one you see is Zavok, the “leader” of the six. Soon after, the 2nd of the deadly six, Zazz, shows up, Zazz is clearly insane and is the most amusing in my opinion. Soon after, you meet Zommon, the obligatory comic relief character, who has an I.Q. of about 50. Eggman controls the six with conch and Sonic, stupidly, knocks it into oblivion, thus causing the six to use their “ability to control magnetic fields” to attack Eggman and Sonic. In the third world, you meet master Zik, he is personally my favorite and has the best personality, and he is a wise old man. Basically the rest of the cut-scenes with Eggman and sonic (who now have a temporary team up) are just interactions, except for one which I will explain when we get to it. In the fourth world, you meet Zeena, the result of a poorly written female stereotype. Then, after completing the first level in the fifth world, a cut-scene plays where sonic attempts to break a fake animal capsule with tails jumping in front of sonic at the last minute. This results in tails being captured by the six and thus, is gone. Upon starting the second level in the world, you meet Zor, and emo. And is the best dialogue wise in the game. Zor is HILARIOUS with his dialogue and clearly has the best lines in the game. In world seven, you can finally confront Zavok in what are the two hardest boss fights in the game. In the final world, and before the first level, Dr. Eggman dies, and you fight harder versions of Zazz and Zommon, but fight easier versions of master Zik. Also, at the beginning of level three in this world, you see that Tails is now part robot, however in a cut scene before this, you see that Tails actually has full control, something that’s important if you are part robot. You also fight easier versions of Zenna, Zor and, just slightly easier Zavok. However, in the final level of the world, tails has thrown away the robot portion of himself (what?) and Eggman is no longer dead, actually he was never dead to begin with, he used a jetpack that came out of completely nowhere and saved himself so he could steal the spotlight and be the main villain again. In what is the easiest boss fight I’ve ever faced, Eggman is defeated and sonic and co. return home, and the credits roll with the full version of the game’s main theme, Wonder world, playing in the background.
GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is solid and fast, as always. You control sonic with the gamepad’s analog stick, which is solid, but not as good as the Adventure games. Sonic can perform the spin dash by pressing ZR and then mashing the A button, you can press A again button again and you will go on, FOREVER…until you hit a wall. You can also press the run button without moving to preform the super peel out, which is next to useless. The game has huge levels filled with alternate paths and scripted sections. Levels either end with an animal capsule of after you beat the boss, also, every level has five red rings in it, get every red ring in each world and you get a chaos emerald. Get all the chaos emeralds and you can become Super sonic. Once you collect 50 rings, you can go Super Sonic, super sonic has a boost maneuver he can do by holding down the run button. In this game, there is a parkour system, if you touch a wall with any sort of momentum, sonic will run along the wall, this also oddly changes Sonic’s model so he is smiling, which is odd. There are 8 worlds in total, in order; they are Windy hill, Desert ruins, Tropical coast, Frozen factory, Silent forest, Sky road, Lava Mountain, and the hidden world. There are 4 levels in each world; the first is a simple level to get you familiar with gimmick of the world. The second is a mid-boss level to introduce the new member of the deadly six in each world. The third level is normally more platforming and less speed. The final level is where each and every one of the deadly six that were foreshadowed earlier in the world is fought. And they always run away. The boss fights are pathetically easy and are never challenging, however, both fights with Zavok are cheap. I won’t spoil ALL of the levels or the returning wisps because YOU need to play them to see how fun they are! Lastly there is the DLC, if you get the deadly six bonus edition, You get a NiGHTS level re-skin, and a recent update brought a Yoshi’s island themed level and another DLC level is coming soon! (It’s going to be the legend of Zelda) FINAL VIRDICT: Sonic’s newest plat former has it’s flaws, and is not better than sonic colors or generations, however, it has a $10 lower price tag than most other Wii U games. I find it similar to another reviewer’s opinion on portal 2 “is it good, yes, is it better than the one before it, no.” I’ll give it a 7/10; it’s a good game for the price, but not the best. EDIT: The Zelda DLC came out and the first part is fun and a great way to grind for animals. The first part is the best, the other part seems lack-luster in comparison. Overall, the zelda DLC is good but not a selling point. I stand by my rating of the game. |
